About Development Investment Tanzania FAQs

"Foreign direct investment rises but the poor may not be benefiting" - an all too familiar storyline

Development counts»

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

Since the country started to implement economic and institutional reforms, there has been a steady increase of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in the economy. Inflows have risen from US$ 172.22mn in 1997 to US$ 183.83mn in 1999, representing the highest figure in Africa South of Sahara. These figures continue to rise, reaching $377m in 2007. Such an increase in foreign direct investments, apparently, indicates that the country’s investment environment has increasingly improved in the manner that investors are now able to predict more precisely profits to be accrued from their investments.
